Welcome to the KAYU Universe.

A universe built around a simple idea: taking the time.

Matcha is much more than a drink. It is a ritual, a discovery, a way to slow down and create, in the midst of our busy days, a moment that belongs to us.

At KAYU, we believe that this moment begins long before the first sip.

It begins when you choose your bowl, prepare your water, measure your matcha, and gently bring the whisk to the water.

Welcome to your ritual.

THE STORY STARTS IN JAPAN

Before becoming a contemporary ritual adopted all over the world, matcha has a history deeply rooted in Japanese culture.

Derived from the tea plant, matcha is notably distinguished by its cultivation and preparation. The leaves intended for matcha are grown in the shade before being harvested, then processed and ground into a very fine powder.

Unlike a classic infusion, matcha does not involve steeping the leaves and then removing them.

The whole powder is mixed with water.

It is this particularity that gives matcha its texture, its intense color, and that very distinctive mouthfeel.

But beyond its preparation, matcha is part of a story of gestures, precision, and mindfulness.

A philosophy that still inspires us today.

FROM TEA TO POWDER

From the plant to the bowl, every step counts.

Cultivating.
Tea intended for matcha is grown under special conditions, notably shaded before harvest.

Harvesting.
Young leaves are selected and then harvested.

Processing.
After various treatments, the leaves become tencha, the raw material used to produce matcha.

Grinding.
The tencha is then ground into an extremely fine powder.

A craft that requires time, precision, and patience.

UNDERSTANDING MATCHA

Matcha can seem intimidating when you discover this world for the first time.

How much to use?
What water temperature?
Which bowl?
Which whisk?
Should it be drunk plain or as a latte?

At KAYU, we believe there is no single right way to discover matcha.

First, there is your way.

Just start.

Discover the taste of plain matcha. Experiment with different textures. Try a matcha latte. Play with the temperature and proportions.

Then, little by little, find what suits you.

THE GESTURE MATTERS

There is something special about preparing matcha.

A few minutes are all it takes.

Yet, these few minutes force us to slow down.

Measure.
Pour.
Whisk.
Observe.
Taste.

The gesture becomes almost as important as the drink itself.

In a fast-paced daily life, preparing your matcha can become a brief pause.

No need for a grand ceremony.

No need to follow rules perfectly.

Simply a few minutes where you do just one thing.

Prepare your matcha.

WHY ACCESSORIES MATTER

An accessory should never be chosen simply because it is beautiful.

It must have a purpose.

The bowl follows the movement of the whisk and becomes the center of the ritual.

The chasen allows you to mix the matcha with precision and create a fine, homogeneous texture.

The spoon allows you to measure with greater consistency.

The glass offers a different tasting experience and allows you to play with textures, colors, and preparations.

Each object adds something to the gesture.

At KAYU, we love this idea: a beautiful object becomes truly precious when it is used.

THE KAYU STANDARD

We don’t simply want to bring together beautiful accessories.

We want to create a cohesive collection.

Objects that we love to look at, but above all, that we love to use.

Our selection is based on several principles:

AESTHETICS

Simple shapes, natural materials, and objects that can find their place in your everyday life.

FUNCTION

Above all, an accessory must be pleasant and intuitive to use.

QUALITY

We favor materials and finishes chosen to last through your daily preparations.

COHESION

Every piece must fit into the KAYU universe.

Because a ritual is not defined by a single object.

It is built around a collection.

CREATE YOUR OWN RITUAL

There is no perfect ritual.

There is only the one that makes you want to come back tomorrow.

Your ritual can last five minutes or twenty.

It can be silent or accompanied by your favorite music.

It can begin when you wake up, after a day at work, or simply whenever you need to take a break.

Start with the essentials.

1 — CHOOSE YOUR TIME

Find a time that you can easily fit into your day.

In the morning to start gently.

In the afternoon to create a break.

Or simply whenever you feel like it.

2 — PREPARE YOUR SPACE

A clean and quiet space is enough.

Your bowl.
Your whisk.
Your matcha.
Your water.

Nothing more is needed.

3 — PREPARE

Place your matcha in the bowl.

Gradually add the water suited to your preparation.

Then whisk with the chasen until you obtain a smooth texture and a fine foam.

Do not immediately seek perfection.

Find your own movement.

4 — TAKE YOUR TIME

Before the first sip, observe.

The color.

The texture.

The aroma.

Then taste.

That too is the ritual.

Learning to pay attention to the little things.

KAYU IS AN INVITATION TO SLOW DOWN

We live surrounded by notifications, appointments and things to do.

So sometimes, taking a few minutes to prepare a drink can seem insignificant.

Yet, it is often in these small moments that we find the most calm.

KAYU was born around this conviction.

Creating objects that make you want to prepare.

Prepare to take the time.

And take the time to better appreciate.
